Joaquín Fuentes Díaz (Ximo Fuentes) was born on May 20, 1976 in the city of Alicante, in the southeast of the Spanish Peninsula, although he lives in the town of Crevillente, Alicante. Family with a long musical tradition, 8 years begins his interest in music. Although counting studying some courses of piano, he finally opts for the classical guitar. At age 13, and after paying a friend the Iron Maiden “Killers” disc, it awakens an interest in rock music and electric guitar. It took little time to buy his first electric guitar and devote many afternoons, after school, to get to interpret the most emblematic issues of that time, locked in his room.
Coming soon comenzaria to form his first band with several friends, but studies would have to machar is the city of Murcia and abandon its projects in your area. During his stay in this city I would perform his baccalaureate studies, combining them with guitar and percussion, while playing with different pop-rock bands. As a guitarist, during this stage, he was a member of the Orchestra of plectrum of the Conservatory Superior of music of Murcia under the baton of D. Antonio Mengual, Professor of guitar at the Conservatory, performing concerts in different parts of Spain such as the Palau de la Música of Valencia, Madrid, etc.; At the same time, he took part as a percussionist in different bands and orchestras, among which is the band of the Conservatoire Superior of music of Murcia, Crevillente Musical Union band; Florence Sinfonietta Orchestra under the baton of Alfonso Saura, on tour in Spain.
At the age of 20, leaving the studies of the conservatorioy decides to go away to Granada for studying musicology, achieving a degree in history and science of music by the University of la Cartuja; without ever abandoning his passion for playing live. During this time it receives class interpretation and choral direction at the hands of Francisco Javier Lara (prof. At the Univ. Granada and specialist in Gregorian chant whose merits include the recording of one of the Cd recorded by Silos Abbey which were sales success); kinds of choral conducting and Kodály method hand of Agnes Kauer of Hungary; courses on hearing and interpretation of the hand of Carles Riera, Crhistine Heine and Francisco Javier Lara.
After the race, he decided to move to the city of Madrid, where became disciple of one of the great guitarists of Spanish rock, as it is Tony Hernando.
After his time at Madrid, he returns to his hometown and began his career in the world of work, entering as a music teacher in secondary school; Professor of electric guitar in “Modern music workshops” of Callosa de Segura and Professor at the Escolanía Coral Municipal de Crevillente
As director, he was Chapel master at the Cathedral of Orihuela; Deputy Director of Coral with, and director of the choir of white voices of the Ntra College. Ms. Del Carmen, with which he has recorded two cd´s.
As researcher performs the Master of University research, by the Catholic University of Valencia, presenting a project on the Valencian musician, Francisco Cabo: “The music of Francisco Cabo in the Cathedral of Orihuela (1790-1796)”, under the direction of D. Rodrigo Madrid. Currently finishes his doctorate studies, at the same University, with Dr. D. Francisco Carlos Bueno Camejo, Professor at the University of Valencia.
